To tell you the truth, I don’t know yet. I’m going to find out by making it.
Why does this website exist?
As with most people, I watch porn. Not a huge amount, but enough. I’ve also had my eyes open to the world of alt twitter, and throw in a cock pick every now and again. When I got an Oculus Quest, the first thing I thought, like I suspect a lot of most men do, is how do I use this for porn?
My gay VR porn experience
Porn on VR, maybe like a lot of things in VR, is full of contradictions. In a world of technical distractions and bombardments of information, VR is both the most invasive form of tech but when it works well, it creates surprising states of mindfulness and calm. And in porn it tends to favor content which is intimate, slow and sensual. You really get the boyfriend experience.
But there are two things that stuck me. One is how far from convenient the technology is; there are constant struggles with bandwidth limitations, cumbersome file transfer workflows, glitchy software, platform design flaws and a lot of things requiring a credit card.
The second thing is how shockingly dismal the gay VR offerings are. Not much, and what we get is not great. In so many other ways gay culture has led society in advancing sexual liberation, and gay communities have often been the first to explore new technologies and create online spaces. But for some reason, in virtual reality porn, we’re completely behind. This will be expanded in the blogs, articles and reviews.
A word of warning, I’m not a writer, that’s neither my passion or my skill set. So apologies if you are and you can really notice those shortcomings. I am however interested in discourse around porn and how technology is changing it. I may also look to create some VR porn along the way.
I really have no idea if anyone will read this, but if you do, feel free to get in touch at hello (at) se-xr (dot) com or message me on Reddit or Discord (coming soon), even if you just say “I read your blog” that would really make my fucking day.
